Public-Signal Intelligence

Public website signals can show what an organization says it offers, who it addresses, how its site is structured and which public routes lead to it. They cannot, on their own, establish revenue, customer satisfaction, spare capacity, conversion rate or strategic intent. Good market intelligence keeps that boundary visible.
Observation: what is actually on the page
Capture the page URL, visible claim, category, geography, contact route and date checked. A service page that names commercial HVAC maintenance supports the claim that the provider publicly markets that service. It does not prove that the team can accept a job tomorrow. Use screenshots only when a stable record is needed, and keep the source link.
Inference: what the pattern may suggest
A cluster of service pages may indicate a strategic focus. Repeated category gaps may suggest a discovery problem. Label both as inferences and state alternative explanations: content may be old, regional, experimental or written for search rather than current delivery. Radar-like site mapping can help find patterns, but the interpretation still requires human review.
Unknown: what public pages do not expose
Commercial terms, actual deal volume, margins and customer outcomes often remain private. A provider’s logo wall is not proof of current contracts. A search impression is not a qualified lead. A sparse website is not proof of a weak business; some firms win through relationships or procurement channels.
Triangulate before using a signal to decide
Compare the site with dated public records, direct participant confirmation where appropriate, and observed discovery data. The 1000&1 Market page explains that “source-backed” means important facts retain an inspectable public source, and that public verification is not full due diligence. This is a useful standard for what a Market should claim.
Publish the observation and its limits together. A reader should be able to tell whether a conclusion is a website fact, a reasoned hypothesis or a private unknown. That discipline is more valuable than a large quantity of scraped data.
Evidence and sources
Evidence note: Public signal ladder is a 1000&1 editorial method diagram, not a measured outcome.
